A distinguishing feature of rabbinic halakhic discourse is its culture of argumentation. In the
juridical traditions that have been passed down, topoi of argumentation exhibit peculiar literarily structure and linguistic form. The present study of the Jachol pattern (ת״ל … יכול) in Talmudic texts tries to give a systematic account of this argumentative structure through a philological and rhetorical analysis.
